____Stunning______ ____Revolutionary___ ___Interesting_____
What is the film about? (write at least three sentences)
The film Seven Samurai is set in medieval Japan, during a time of much political
turmoil, where the law is virtually non-existent. A small farming village is forced to
hire samurai after bandits continue to ravage their land and terrorize them. With little
money to offer, 7 brave samurai volunteer to help and defend the small village, despite
being outnumbered by the many bandits.
What was good about the film?
The film had an extremely original plot back in 1954, and utilized many
revolutionary filming techniques, such as slow motion during fights. The actors do an
amazing job and are compelling figures. The film is a cinematic classic and is a must see.
Would you recommend the film? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend the film as it is a classic and is inspiration for many
popular movies today. While it may be a long movie and seems like it dwells on
meaningless details at times, in the end you will be glad you sat through it.

Film title The Makioka Sisters
Director Kon Ichikawa
Date released 1983
List three adjectives that describe this film
Culturally enriching uninteresting mediocre
What is the film about? (write at least three sentences)
The film follows the lives of the Makiokas, a wealthy Osaka family, focusing on the family’s
attempts to find a husband for the third sister, Yukiko. It depicts the decline of the family’s
upper-middle class lifestyle as the Great Depression hangs over them throughout the film.
Initially, the Makiokas’ pride led them to dismiss the numerous marriage proposals that Yukiko
had received but as there status declined so did the number of proposals. Now Yukiko, thirty
years old, remains unmarried.
What was good about the film?
This film educates the viewer of many cultural dimensions of Japanese culture such as arranged
marriages, age superiority, and strict marital traditions. Due to Japanese tradition, Taeko, the
youngest sister is unable to marry until her older sister finds a suitor. The film is centered on this
conflict.
Would you recommend the film? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this movie because of the lack of a climax, dull plot, and the two
and a half hour duration. This movie was slow-moving and left the viewer unsatisfied by
the end. Although the film educates the viewer about Japanese culture, other Japanese
films may be more interesting.

Tomoya Kashida, a production assistant for a television company in Japan, hears the

It portrays a beautiful yet tragic love story between the two protagonishts. The storyline
