This book was about two people (Children, teens and adults throughout the book), who both suffered traumatic experiences as a child and their struggles to move on. The main characters, Alice and Mattia, become friends as teens and help each other grow and continue on with life. This novel provides a view into a different side to Italian culture, not normally seen in American novels.
What was good about the book?
This book was good because it was an easy, entertaining read, and also provides an interesting look into Italian culture that is hard to find other places.
What was challenging about the book?
This book was challenging because it contains a lot about characters with eating disorders, characters who self-harm, and some graphic traumatic experiences.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
Overall, I would recommend this book to a High Schooler. The book provides a representation of what happens outside of the tourist filled cities in Italy, and is a good read at the same time.

Beautiful Ruins is about an Italian man who owns a hotel in his small village off the coast of Italy. He lives a quiet and innocent life and is not very exposed to the world until an American actress shows up to his hotel. He soon falls deeply in love with her and his world is never the same. The book jumps to modern day and tells about his search for the actress in modern day.
What was good about the book?
Although the book gives a lot of solid information about Italy and the reader is able to take in so much, the story is intriguing and you find your nose stuck inside the book. The descriptions are beautiful and the characters are undeniably realistic and relatable.
What was challenging about the book?
The challenging part of the book is following the conversations among a few of the characters as well as the time period shifts that occurs in the book.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend this book because it’s not boring. It’s so fun and interesting and you get to actually enjoying reading it and it does not feel like your reading a book for school.

This biography is the complete story of the life of Benito Mussolini. The book is well written in a way that he separates the chapters by influential people in his life and influential events. As informative as the book is about his life, he also includes emotional events and quotes that can only be found in this book.
What was good about the book?
Like I said before, the emotional add ins in the book definitely made the book stronger. Being the only book he wrote on his life, it may be one of the best sources.
What was challenging about the book?
The book can definitely be boring at times and is a little long, however it helped me a lot in history class as well as English.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend the book solely because it is the only book Mussolini wrote of himself.

This book is about the journeys that Galileo made to Rome and other cities around Rome. The biography describes his inventions in the field of astronomy and biology, but also about how he influenced Italian culture. Galileo was a very significant citizen in Rome, and as displayed by the biography, he has changed not only Italy’s culture, but also the life of many others around the world.
What was good about the book?
The book was good because it taught me all about Galileo’s inventions and incentives throughout his life. Also, the biography teaches all about what life was like back in the 1500s, much different from what it is today. Finally, it was interesting to see how society back in the 1500s reacted to these scientific advancements.
What was challenging about the book?
This book was challenging because at some parts it was dull and dreary, not always presenting a lot of action. There were many times when it was just a long narrative that described an area of Galileo’s life, which was boring.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would recommend this book based on the information it presents about Galileo’s life. I learned a lot about Galileo and society back in the 1500s, however, the biography was a little boring.

The book is about a lawyer, Guido Guerrieri, who washired to work a kidnapping case in Italy. Guerrieri looks deep into his resources to find out who was the kidnapper was, and eventually, he ran into a morbid cover-up, and discovered how the victim, Manuela, actually died. Guerrieri was an extremely hard worker, and always did his best to perform his tasks to the best of his abilility. By doing so, he was able to find the answer to the case, although it was not the answer he wanted.
What was good about the book?
This book was good because of the great plot that the author configured, but also because of the suspense. There was constantly a cliff-hanger, and I always wanted to continue to read.
What was challenging about the book?
The book was challenging because it was so dense. It was difficult to keep track of the case that Guerrieri was working on.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend this novel. It was very interesting, and it was informative about Italian culture.
