FICTION
Book title ___The Boy in the Suitcase_________
Author___Lene Kaaberbol______________________
Date published __2011______________
List three adjectives that describe this book
____thrilling________ ___fast-paced _ ______suspenseful____
What is the book about? (write at least three sentences)
Nina Borg, a Red Cross nurse, wife, and mother of two, is a compulsive do-gooder who can't say no when someone asks for help—even when she knows better. So when her old friend Karin leaves her a key to a public locker in a Copenhagen train station, Nina is suckered into her most dangerous project yet. Inside the locker is an old suitcase, and inside that suitcase is a three year-old boy, drugged and naked, but alive. After Nina learns that Karin has been brutally murdered, she realizes that this little boy is more important than she originally thought, and both she and the little boy’s lives are in danger. This leads to her increasingly desperate trek across Denmark to find out who the little boy is, and where he came from.
What was good about the book?
The book was very suspenseful, it kept you thinking, and had lots of twists and turns, so everything was a surprise, and the ending was very unexpected.
What was challenging about the book?
The book does not have numbered chapters, instead the novel is broken up into different sections that can sometimes start in the middle of pages, and so if you don’t realize a new section has started, the book can become very confusing. This was made increasingly difficult by the fact that the point of view changed in every new section, and it wasn’t labeled, so again, the book could become very confusing if you missed where a new section started.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book, because despite how interesting the storyline was, it was not very useful when it comes to writing about a country’s culture. The book focused mostly on the mystery aspect of the story, and gave no real insight into Denmark’s culture.
