Biography/ Nonfiction
Book title ______Castro’s Secrets______________
Author_____Brian Latell_______________
Date published ___2012_____________
List three adjectives that describe this book
_____Interesting_____ ____Scary_____ ____Intriguing______
What is the book about? (write at least three sentences)
This book is about many secret operations and assassination attempts in Cuba during Fidel Castro’s reign. Brian Latell has many interviews with retired Cuban agents who were working for the CIA and FBI. Many facts given in the story were first released to the public in this story.
What was good about the book?
This book was really interesting to read because a lot of the information had never been released before. The stories that the agents were telling were almost unbelievable. It made me think about all of the things going on internationally that we are not privy to; this was both scary and cool at the same time.
What was challenging about the book?
It was challenging to keep the people straight in this book. There are interviews with many different people from Cuba and the United states, so sometimes I got confused about who was telling the story.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would recommend this book because it was really fascinating. It was a totally different look at the government than I had ever seen before. It was cool to see all of the behind the scenes operations.

Fiction
Book title ______Our Man in Havana__________________
Author_____Graham Greene____________________
Date published _____1958___________
List three adjectives that describe this book
______Dark_____ _____Descriptive____ ______Funny____
What is the book about? (write at least three sentences)
The main protagonist, Wormold, lived in England and was offered a position with the British Secret Service to feed them information about Cuba. He does not get any good, useful information, so he makes up stories and reports them to the British Secret Service. They are suspicious and send a woman to keep an eye Wormold and one of Wormold’s colleagues falls in love with his daughter, Milly.
What was good about the book?
It is interesting to see what stories Worlmold is able to make up. Graham Greene is also a very descriptive writer and gives clear images of whatever he is describing. Finally, there is an underlying humor that is very funny when you pick up on it.
What was challenging about the book?
At some points the story was slightly confusing. Because it was written 60 years ago, some things are no longer relevant so they didn’t make sense to me.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would recommend this story if you are looking for a challenge. It does have a very good plot, but getting to the “meat” of the story can be a little bit boring. There are 228 pages and the words were very small, but there was an audiobook, so I would recommend buying the audiobook and reading along with it.
