BIOGRAPHY OR NON-FICTION
Book title: Steve and Me
Author: Terri Irwin
Date published: 9/2/08
List three adjectives that describe this book
Interesting, exciting, heartfelt
What is the book about? (write at least three sentences)
In her biography, Terri Irwin recounts the adventurous life she shared with her husband Steve Irwin. Terri tells the fascinating stores of the unforgettable adventures they shared -- wrangling venomous snakes, saving deadly crocodiles from poachers, and swimming among humpback whales. Terri portrayed her husband Steve as who he really was- a devoted husband, family-man, and a wildlife warrior.
What was good about the book?
The book served as a firsthand account of what Steve Irwin truly was like in the eyes of not only his wife but the world. The book dug deeper into Steve’s personal life and what he truly was about; protecting wildlife.
What was challenging about the book?
It was a little difficult and frustrating because the whole book is written in Terri Irwin’s point of view, and the main focus is supposed to be Steve Irwin. The beginning of the book focused a lot on Terri’s life before she met Steve.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend the book because I found it very useful for the essay we were required to do on a famous person from our country. The book gives you a firsthand account of Steve’s life and his personal values.

FICTION
Book title: Tomorrow, When the War Began
Author: John Marsden
Date published: 2006
List three adjectives that describe this book
Adventurous, fast-paced, intriguing
What is the book about? (write at least three sentences)
The book is about a girl Ellie and her group of friends who go camping in the Australian Outback and when they return, the find that their hometown Wirrawee, Australia has been ransacked by a foreign enemy. Their families have been kidnapped, houses robbed, and the town destroyed. With a possible WWIII erupting, the teens have to decide whether to fight for their country or protect themselves.
What was good about the book?
The book was very interesting and had intriguing themes in it. It’s very different from anything I had ever read before, and the idea of a WWIII is very fascinating.
What was challenging about the book?
In the book a lot of Australian terms are used and although there is an “Aussie Glossary” not all of the words are in it, which made it difficult to keep up with some of the things the characters were talking about in the novel. Also, the author offered little background/context on some of the settings, which made it confusing.
Would you recommend the book? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this for a Global Studies project because the book is more science fiction and it was really difficult to write an essay on this about the Australian culture.
